Two projects, progress on both

So I have been working on both of these at the same time. It's interesting, because they are two very different styles and I can switch between them if I need to!

Maria's painting is being built up in layers right now. So far I am pretty pleased with it, but I will probably have to do some fine tuning once I get all the colors in there. It is best (in my opinion) to get everything down first, then adjust where you need to. I am especially happy with the composition on this painting. My reference photo is a little fuzzy, so either I will keep the shapes loose and expressive or i might use some of the other pics I have to tighten up features and such. It is too early at this point to make that call.

Snoopy's painting is a little less developed at this point, but I think I am going to work on it for most of tomorrow. His painting will have Terra (his bus) surrounded by trees and such. It is difficult to tell at this stage, but this is a fish-eye processed photo, so it will all kinda conform to the shape of the canvas. Should be pretty neat once I start in w/ the black lines and color! I gotta tuck that back bumper in a little now that I am thinking of it. :)

Snoopy and Maria

Here is some background action happening for Snoopy and Maria. Snoopy's painting is going to be of his super sano 21 window deluxe bus. The canvas is a 3' x 2' oval that has nice curvy edges. The white towards the bottom is a little repair I had to make due to my overzealous sanding. This happens once in a while, but it's good to go now! All patched up and secure. I am not sure if I will be positioning this horizontally or vertically yet. Probably horizontal...

Maria's canvas will be a portrait of herself and her late puppy dog Miranda. This canvas will be painted in this vertical orientation.

Old work, not posted previously

Ok, so I guess I dropped the ball on this one! I didn't post finished pictures of this project yet so here is the hearth I did in Bristol, CT a couple of months ago. The wood grain and stone chimney is all painted! Trompe L'oeil!

Guess what?

The Jill's two dog paintings are finished and headed out today! Here they are:

and for reference, here is what that second one looked like before I went back into it:

Beagle finished but...

Now I have to go back into the other dog to make it as clean as this one. In other words, I didn't finish it enough when I first finished it... so now I have to finish it some more! :)

Jill's progress and Jessica's mittens

Hey people,

I have been working on this painting for most of this week. For some reason I have been more detail oriented on this one... to the point I will probably have to go back into the first of the two just so that they match up. Oh well, no compromising here!

Anyway, here it was at the beginning of the week... Tuesday or so.

And here it is now with its compliment in the background.

Also, I want to share some work done by my wife Jessica who is an avid knitter (if you don't know that already!) These are traditional Nordic wedding mittens. She finished them earlier this week to celebrate our wedding as is tradition. It has our initials, year and accurate portrait of both of us. lol! They are knit with wool sourced at the place we got married. Sheep graze the property and if I was ambitious enough, we could find the names of said sheep. Neat-o!
